Road Construction

Projects include small repairs such as culvert replacement, slides or short pieces of roads that require rebuilding. The remainder of County construction projects are surveyed and designed by the Public Works Project Manager, then contracted to private construction companies. There are minimum standards and requirements for developing/constructing access approaches to parcels located on municipal roads within Brazeau County.

Road Construction & Access Approaches

Brazeau County plans, manages, and delivers a variety of road construction and rehabilitation projects each year to maintain a safe and reliable transportation network. Projects range from smaller improvements, such as culvert replacements, road slide repairs, and localized road reconstruction, to larger capital road construction projects. Major projects are surveyed and designed by the County's Public Works Project Manager and are typically completed by qualified private contractors through a competitive procurement process.

 

Access Approaches

Brazeau County's Access Approach Policy establishes the standards and requirements for constructing approaches that provide safe access from municipal roads to private property. Property owners requiring a new approach or modifications to an existing approach must obtain approval before construction begins.

Once an application has been approved, residents may choose one of two construction options:

  • County Construction – Brazeau County can construct the approach on the applicant's behalf, with costs recovered in accordance with County policy. Construction is scheduled based on operational priorities, workload, and seasonal conditions, and is completed as resources become available. Timelines are not guaranteed, particularly outside of the primary construction season.
  • Owner Construction – Property owners may construct the approved approach themselves or hire a qualified contractor. A refundable security deposit is required and is held for one year following construction to ensure the approach meets County standards and performs satisfactorily.
