How is my property assessed?
Brazeau County’s Assessment Department assesses properties each year to determine taxation for the following year. Criteria important to the assessment process are market value, market growth, and real growth. Property values have increased due to the high demand for properties. Real estate prices in Brazeau County are linked to the economy of the Edmonton area and to local regions.
Farm land is valued using a provincially regulated assessment base rate. Commercial and industrial property is valued at market value.
When do I get my tax notice?
Combined Tax & Assessment Notices are distributed mid-May. If you don't receive your tax notice by mid-June, please contact our office at 780-542-7777.
When are my taxes due?
June 30 is the deadline for payment. If paying in person, our hours are 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM, Monday to Friday (excluding Holidays). Please note there is no after-hours mail slot available.
Where and how can I pay my taxes?
You can pay your taxes at the County office. We accept cash, debit and cheques as payment. Please make sure if paying by debit, that your debit card does not have a transaction limit.
You can pay at your local bank. Please make sure to bring your tax notice with you.
You can use online banking, or telephone banking as long as you have set it up through your bank.
You can mail your payment to our office using a cheque as payment. Please send to:
Brazeau County
Box 77
Drayton Valley, AB T7A 1R1
Please note, if you are paying by cheque here are some helpful reminders to ensure there is no delay in processing:
- Make sure that the date is correct.
- Check the body and figures to make sure they match.
- Make sure it is signed.
Please also note that if you are part of the monthly payment plan, you cannot pay your balance in full.
How does the monthly payment plan work?
Brazeau County offers taxpayers a tax installment payment plan that allows residents to pay their property tax in monthly installments instead of a single payment. Monthly installments break your property tax into smaller amounts which may make it easier to budget. You can join the plan anytime if:
- You have chequing privileges at a financial institution (bank, trust company, treasury branch, or credit union)
- You do not currently pay your taxes through a mortgage company (P.I.T.)
Application forms are available at the Brazeau County office, or you can access them on our Applications, Forms, and Permits page.
Once you have completed the form, please attach a voided cheque and speak with Jennaka Hartman, Taxation and Assessment Coordinator at the County office.
Please view the Tax Instalment Payment Plan Bylaw No. 903-16 linked below.
What if I disagree with my assessment?
If you disagree with your assessment, please contact our Taxation Department at 780-542-7777.
You can also contact our assessors directly at Accurate Assessment Group – 1-877-438-2305 or by email at bob@aag-gis.com.
If you are still not satisfied, you may register a formal assessment complaint with the Assessment Review Board within 60 days from the date your assessment notice was mailed (check your assessment notice to confirm the date). The primary function of the Assessment Review Board is to provide a forum for individuals and corporations to: challenge various aspects of their property of business assessment; seek an exemption from assessment or taxation; or challenge the imposition of other forms of tax (i.e. local improvement, well drilling, special and business revitalization zone taxes).
