Statement from Brazeau County on the resignation of Reeve Bart Guyon
BRAZEAU COUNTY, July 24, 2026 — Brazeau County has been advised that Reeve Bart Guyon has submitted his resignation from Council, effective immediately, citing health reasons.
Upon receiving the resignation, Council called a special meeting to be held on Tuesday, July 28, 2026, to put the former reeve’s resignation on public record, to confirm interim leadership arrangements for the position of Reeve, and to set next steps for a County by-election.
“On behalf of Council, I want to thank Bart for his service to Brazeau County, and to wish him well as he prioritizes his health,” Deputy Reeve Dallas Ekstrom said. “Our focus now is on continuity, making sure residents remain well-served and well-represented, and on managing this transition responsibly. Council will take the steps required to fill the vacancy, and we’ll keep residents informed as we do.”
The by-election will be held in accordance with the province’s Municipal Government Act and Local Authorities Election Act. In addition to the special meeting being held Tuesday, information for residents about next steps, including timing, will be shared as it becomes available, on the County website (www.brazeau.ab.ca) and on the County’s official Facebook page.
Out of respect for Guyon’s privacy, Council will not comment further on the circumstances of his decision at this time.
