It’s summertime again in beautiful Brazeau County! I hope everyone gets outside and makes the most of the warm weather. We have many Community events happening throughout our County and recreational fun is at its best during this season.
While you’re out on the roads, please keep your eyes open. We have a busy construction season happening to build and maintain roads, including the Ring Road project.
Thanks to everyone who attended our first-ever Eco-Fair held June 23 in the County office parking lot. Thanks to the vendors, sponsors, volunteers and staff for helping us launch the Municipal Energy Efficiency Rebate program and showcase all the companies, organizations, and others who are working to reduce energy costs and improve our environment. You can see pictures from the Fair in this issue.
Also in this issue, you can read about our Community Peace Officers, and the work they do to protect our citizens, infrastructure and keep our roads safe. Thanks to Jesse and Steve!
As for recent highlights from Council, in June, Council passed a motion to construct one mile of Township Road 474 between RR 53 and RR 54 to a lease road standard at an estimated cost of $778,000. Design and permitting work will begin in 2018, with construction expected in 2019.
Council also heard from our Acting Director of Planning & Development who outlined a customer service oriented approach to planning matters, with the goal of providing excellent service and ongoing communication with those seeking permits, re-zonings, and subdivisions. The department will also work to complete permitting processes ahead of legislated timelines.
Thank you to everyone who participated in our Annual General Meeting in mid-June. Council always welcomes the opportunity to hear from you. This is your County and we always want to hear your ideas, thoughts, and solutions.
All are welcome to attend as we officially launch our solar project at the Breton Fire Hall on July 23rd at 11 a.m. Come see the nearly 100 panels at the hall and have lunch with your neighbors and local members of Council from Breton and Brazeau County!
Have a safe and happy summer!
Reeve, Brazeau County
