Farm Family Award recipients
Donald and Dianna Ewanicke win Farm Family of The Year
Don’s roots go back a couple generations in this area. His grandparents came to Canada in 1929 and homesteaded south of Violet Grove. His parents took over the farm in 1968.
Don purchased his first ½ section of land in the same area in October of 1987 and later that year met Dianna when she moved from St Paul and they worked together in a welding shop. In April of 1988 they moved a mobile home onto the farm and began a life together working full time and farming.
They were married in June of 1989 and had four daughters, Jessica, Cora, Amber and Krystal. The girls were always with them when farming, riding around in the tractors and later as they got older helping out in any way. In 1997 Don and Dianna also incorporated their own welding company and proudly support other businesses in the community by shopping locally as much as possible.
They rent an extra 11 quarters of land putting up around 2,500 bales of hay this year to feed their 280 cows. The girls all went on to post-secondary school and even though they have moved away and are either attending college or working they continue to help out on the farm whenever they are able. Amber has just recently married Cody Strocher.
