Organizational Meeting (post-election 2017) October 26, 2017 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
As in previous election years, the newly elected Council will proceed with their organizational meeting within two weeks of the October election, consistent with section 192 of the Municipal Government Act (MGA).
The organizational meeting marks the official commencement of Council’s term of office and the completion of the previous Council’s term. The meeting gives Council a chance to clear up some routine business. This includes the official oaths for Reeve and Council, as well as appointing people to the various committees and other bodies associated with Council.
Orientation Meeting (post-election 2017) October 26, 2017 1:00 p.m. – 4:30 p.m.
A vital part of the smooth operation of municipal government is the interaction between Council and administration. Understanding how the administration works will be shared through an orientation session provided by the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) and the senior management team (SMT). The CAO and SMT will endeavor to provide an overview of the everyday work of running a municipal government. This includes providing a variety of programs and services based on the priorities that the Council has set for the municipality.
In addition to the municipal operation orientation meeting summarized above, Council is scheduled for a Term of Office training session (general legal overview training session) hosted on November 2, 2017 from 9:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. This session will provide Council with an overview of municipal powers as set out in the Municipal Government Act and other related legislation, pecuniary interest and indemnification, conflict of interest, as well as role of Council as Commissioners for Oath.
The organizational meeting and orientation meeting will be advertised and open to the general public. In closing, I extend my sincere appreciation to Council, staff, residents and guests for making Brazeau County the best place to call home.
