Brazeau Reservoir

The Brazeau Reservoir Recreation Area Campgrounds consist of four separate individual and group site campgrounds, and two separate bodies of water: the Reservoir and the Canal.

The largest individual campground is located at the Reservoir Loop Campgrounds by the Brazeau Dam. There are 33 individual sites as well as a large overflow overlooking the reservoir. Loop 3 Group site and Loop 4 Group Sites are also located in this area. All this area is surrounded by one of Alberta's best beaches and many ATV trails.

The West Canal Campground with 18 individual sites is located on the Canal. It is very popular among the campers fishing for Northern Pike and wanting to enjoy a sense of quiet wilderness. The East Canal Group Site is also located on the Canal at the far east end (15km from the Dam), near the powerhouse generating station. Both the Canal and the Reservoir provide excellent opportunities for canoers and kayakers.

The Brazeau Group Site overlooking the Reservoir has an enclosed log cookshack with a fireplace. There is access to power, a barbecue pit with overhead canopy, two horseshoe pits, a beach volleyball court, a soccer sized grass field and enough parking for 20 - 25 RV units. While not recommended on the Canal, the Reservoir offers opportunities for all kinds of water sports, including boating and waterskiing.

Be sure to visit the Brazeau Tourism website at www.brazeautourism.ca for details on pike, trout, walleye, whitefish, perch and sturgeon fishing. The Tourist Information Centre for Brazeau County is located in the Rocky Rapids General Store Museum.
