Assessment Review

Brazeau County’s Assessment Department assesses properties each year to determine taxation for the following year. Criteria important to the assessment process are market value, market growth, and real growth. Property values have increased due to the high demand for properties. Real estate prices in Brazeau County are linked to the economy of the Edmonton area and to local regions.

Farm land is valued using a provincial regulated assessment base rate. Commercial and industrial property is valued at market value.

Combined Tax & Assessment Notices are distributed mid April. If you disagree with your assessment, please contact our Tax Department at 780-542-7777.

If you are still not satisfied, you may register a formal assessment complaint with the Assessment Review Board within 30 days from the date your assessment notice was mailed (check your assessment notice to confirm the date). The primary function of the Assessment Review Board is to provide a forum for individuals and corporations to: challenge various aspects of their property of business assessment; seek an exemption from assessment or taxation; or challenge the imposition of other forms of tax (i.e. local improvement, well drilling, special and business revitalization zone taxes). The Assessment Review Board is the first level of complaint that functions like a court. The Board is made up of all members of County Council.
