Brazeau County Update on Basement Flooding and Electrical Issues
Drayton Valley, Alberta, August 9, 2016 — The cause of basement flooding at the Brazeau County Administration Building Sept. 8th was due to a sewage lift station pump malfunction, omission of a backflow preventer to counter domestic sanitary line, and was further compounded by excessive storm runoff due to the construction project that traverses the service road just east of the County Building.
The flooding prompted the shutdown of electrical power and the evacuation of the building at 12 p.m. The building was restored to an operable state at 4 p.m., and was re-opened at 8 a.m. Sept. 9th. Restoration work will continue over the next week.
Visitors to the building are advised that the elevator cannot currently be operated. Accommodations will be made for visitors who would normally require use of the elevator to reach the second floor.
This incident was unrelated to flooding in the building’s basement on Aug. 3rd, which was caused by ground water penetration through the basement retaining wall.
